Popular tourist spots to take along poodles
If you want to take your pet to a tourist spot, the Great Wall (Badaling section in particular) might not be ideal, since it's usually crowded and pets are not welcome.
You need to choose places with fewer people and a pet-friendly environment.
However, there are many beautiful places in China. Listed below are some popular destinations recommended by our interviewees.
Huanghuacheng Lakeside Great Wall Reserve, Huairou, Beijing:
It is a tourist resort featuring mountains, blue water and a section of the Great Wall built about 600 years ago during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
It is 70 km from Dongzhimen area in downtown Beijing and takes about one hour and 30 minutes to drive there. It takes about 3 hours by bus. First, take the 916 Express at Dongzhimen and get off at Nanhuayuan Sanqu (the third area of the southern garden). Then take H21 to Shuichangcheng (lakeside Great Wall).
Moganshan National Forest Park, Deqing, Zhejiang province:
Moganshan, a leisure tourism and summer resort, boasts bamboo forests, tea gardens, streams and 20th-century architecture.
It is 60 km northwest of Hangzhou and 200 km southwest of Shanghai.
It takes about 3 hours to drive from Hongqiiao station in Shanghai to Moganshan. You can also take the high-speed train from Hongqiao to Hangzhoudong (Hangzhou East) station and then from Hangzhoudong to Deqing.
Xunliao Bay, Huizhou, Guangdong province:
Xunliao Bay features white sand beaches. It has world-class natural beaches, with water depths of less than 1 meter within 100 meters of a beach.
It takes 3 hours to drive from Guangzhounan (Guangzhou South) station to the beaches. You can also take the high-speed train from Guangzhounan to Huizhounan (Huizhou South).
Denglonghe Grassland tourist area, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia autonomous region
If you want your pet to run around and play, the Hulunbuir Grassland is the most attractive. But it is large and the scenic spots are spread over the area.
The Denglonghe Grassland features mountains and rivers, too.
It is some 560 kilometers from Beijing and takes about 16 hours by regular train. It takes about 7 hours by road.
Dalian Jinshitan National Tourism Resort, Jinpu New Area, Liaoning province:
The resort is impressing visitors with its seawater, fossilized rocks, blue skies and beaches.
Surrounded by the Yellow Sea on three sides and boasting 35 kilometers of coastline, it was recognized as a national 5A scenic spot, China's highest rank for tourism areas.
It takes 6 hours by high-speed train from Beijing to Dalianbei (Dalian North) station, which is 35 km from Jinshitan. You can take a taxi there for 125 yuan one way, with the driving time of 50 minutes.
