Lunar rover discovers unidentified substance

China's lunar rover Yutu 2, or Jade Rabbit 2, discovered an unidentified substance in an impact crater on the far side of the moon, according to the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration. The discovery was made during the rover's ninth lunar day of exploration on the far side of the moon. The ground controllers designed a driving route for the rover to allow it to conduct scientific detection to the depth of an impact crater near the landing site and the distribution of the ejecta, the center said. "The Yutu 2 rover is expected to bring us more surprises and scientific discoveries," it said. The lander of the Chang'e 4 probe and the Yutu 2 rover have resumed work for the 10th lunar day after "sleeping" during the extremely cold lunar night.

Graft suspect turns himself in from abroad

Li Lianchun, a fugitive duty crime suspect, has returned to China and turned himself in, according to a statement on Tuesday by an office in charge of fugitives and asset recovery under the central anti-corruption coordination group. He has also returned most of his illegal gains. Li, 66, formerly head of the Mishan people's congress standing committee in Heilongjiang province, is suspected of embezzling huge amounts of project funds, the statement said. He fled overseas in September 2013. The procuratorate started an investigation into his case in April 2015. His case was transferred to the supervisory authority of Jixi city after the supervisory system reform. The statement added that his return proves that corrupt officials cannot escape the law.
