Death toll rises to 11 in sudden flooding
Eleven people were killed in floods triggered by a sudden rainstorm in Shenzhen on Thursday night, local authorities said on Saturday. The body of the last missing person was found on Saturday afternoon, a source with the city's emergency management bureau said. At around 9 pm on Thursday, heavy rain pounded Shenzhen, leading to floods that washed away workers who were dredging culverts in different sections of Luohu and Futian. The average precipitation over three hours on Thursday night reached 65 millimeters in Luohu district, according to the Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau.

Fire in production workshop kills 4
Four people were killed after a fire engulfed a production workshop in Guanhaiwei township, Cixi, on Sunday, local authorities said. The fire started at about 10 am, killing two people on the spot and leaving another two injured. The injured were taken to the hospital, but died from their injuries, the Cixi municipal emergency management bureau said. The fire was extinguished at about 10:30 am. Further investigation into the cause is underway. Information on the nature of the workshop was not immediately available.

Magnitude-3.0 quake shakes northern area
An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 jolted Huairou district in Beijing's northern mountainous suburb at 12:47 pm on Sunday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. The epicenter was monitored at a latitude of 40.34 degrees north and a longitude of 116.39 degrees east. The quake struck at a depth of 19 kilometers, according to a statement from the center. The tremor was felt in parts of Beijing, particularly in the districts of Huairou, Yanqing and Changping. No injuries or property damage have been reported. Beijing was also hit by a quake with a magnitude of 2.9 on April 7 in Haidian. Experts said that the two quakes are normal seismological activity and are not related.
