Police investigate claims of bird poaching

Police in Pingshan county are investigating the possible poisoning of wild black storks in local wetland. Although no dead storks have been found, they have identified 35 sites in recent months where they believe the birds were poisoned with farm chemicals. The county government urged police to investigate after receiving reports storks were being illegally hunted and poisoned. The birds were reportedly being sold to restaurants for big profits. Black storks are a species under State protection.
