The green macadamia trees perching on the mountainous slopes surrounding Liufeng village in southern Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region are helping the locals to boost their income.
"They used to be barren mountains as far as the eye could see here," says Liu Pingshan, an official with the village, which is home to around 5,700 people.
The villagers used to grow traditional produce like sugar cane, rice, corn and peanuts to eke out a living.
