Society: Xi'an landfill to be built into green park
China's largest waste landfill in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, will be closed soon, and an ecological park is expected to be built on the site. Built in 1994, the landfill reached saturation 20 years ahead of schedule, China Central Television reported. Covering an area of the size of 100 soccer fields, it processes 10,000 metric tons of trash per day, while its designed daily amount was around 2,500 metric tons. Sun Jianjun, who is responsible for processing the garbage in the local administration bureau, said the landfill will be closed and an ecological park will be established.
