10 winners take top prize in contest
A provincial innovation competition designed for universities and colleges ended at Northeast Forestry University last week, with 10 winners taking home first prize. The competition started in May and received nearly 690 entries from 14 higher education institutions in the province. Since 2011, the biennial event has played an active role in fostering innovation, promoting exchanges in inventions and increasing intellectual property awareness.

Association opens protection center
A fashion intellectual property protection center was unveiled during China Fashion Week held from Oct 25 to Nov 2, according to the China Fashion Association. The center aims to advance the establishment of China's fashion IP protection system, safeguard the rights of original designs and inspire innovation in the fashion sector, the CFA said. Its president, Zhang Qinghui, said the association will encourage originality in the fashion industry and accelerate commercialization of designs.

Team assembled to solve patent disputes
During an auto parts fair held in Jinan, capital of Shandong province in mid-October, local authorities put together a team incorporating enforcement officials and legal aid professionals in a bid to handle intellectual property disputes. The group settled 10 patent disputes on-site. This year, the host city has focused on fighting counterfeits in such sectors as pharmaceuticals, home appliances and electronics. Key venues under supervision include malls, supermarkets, online shops and exhibitions and fairs.

Report details deep textile heritage
Of China's more than 1,300 national-level intangible cultural heritage items, close to 200 relate to textiles, according to a report released at the third China Textile Intangible Cultural Heritage Conference in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, in early November. More than 30 of them are about embroidery, ranging from the four major schools originating from Jiangsu, Sichuan, Guangdong and Hunan provinces to lesser-known types popular in other regions or prevailing in ethnic groups' areas.

Expo puts region's vitality on show
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Intellectual Property Trade Expo, running from Tuesday to Thursday, is showcasing the region's vitality in innovation with a host of patented technologies. Exhibitions of trademarks, copyright and geographic indications are among highlights of this year's event. An online trading system was launched at the opening ceremony of the expo to facilitate IP commercialization, licensing, financing, insurance and securitization, organizers said.

Counterfeiter caught by customs officials
The Wenjindu branch of Shenzhen Customs seized more than 11,000 counterfeit products exported by a trading company in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province in late September, which were recently confirmed infringements on 11 trademarks, including BMW, Bose and Chanel. The seizure ranged from auto components and watches to earphones, pants and bags. The trade company also provided fake documents, including receipts and bank card consumption slips, as part of its illegal deal to cheat consumers.
