Iris Chang memorial park opens in California

A memorial park honoring the late Chinese-American writer Iris Chang opened in San Jose, California, on Saturday. Chang wrote the seminal work, The Rape of Nanking: The Forgotten Holocaust of World War II, which was published in 1997. The 10,500-square-meter park opened on the 15th anniversary of Chang's death. With the book, she brought to light the horrifying atrocities, better known as the Nanjing Massacre, committed by invading Japanese troops in 1937. More than 300,000 Chinese died in over 40 days of brutal killing by the Japanese army in the winter of 1937-38.
