Woman who ran over toddler faces court

A woman, surnamed Zhang, who ran over and killed a 2-year-old girl while making a turn in her housing estate faced court in Tongzhou on Monday. The prosecutor said 31-year-old Zhang should be found guilty of negligence for causing the toddler's death. The tragedy happened about 5 pm on Oct 7 when she was leaving to go to dinner with friends. Zhang, the mother of a 4-year-old child, stayed at the scene and immediately phoned police for help. She has apologized to the girl's family and paid 1.7 million yuan ($243,000) in compensation. The court has yet to deliver its verdict.
