Trend: Competition for some govt jobs fierce

More than 1.4 million people are expected to take the 2020 national civil servant exam, or guokao, according to the State Administration of Civil Service. The exam is scheduled to be held on Nov 24. China will recruit about 24,100 government employees next year. The average ratio of applicants to openings is about 60-to-1, with competition for some posts being particularly fierce. The most popular position is with the State Archives Administration - 2,315 applicants will compete for one job. According to the job requirements, the position is primarily responsible for photography, video shooting and directing. Meanwhile, positions in the State Administration for Market Regulation, the State Taxation Administration and the Ministry of Environmental Protection also attracted more than 1,000 applicants each. By contrast, more than 240 job vacancies have zero applicants.
