This Day, That Year

China Daily | Updated: 2019-10-28 08:06

Editor's note: This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China.

On Oct 28, 1970, construction of the Tanzam Railway, or Tazara, began.

The 1,860-kilometer Chinese-built railway links landlocked Zambia to the Tanzanian port of Dar es Salaam. It went into operation officially on July 1, 1976, as seen in the item from China Daily.
