Why the music stopped playing and what to do about it

By A. Thomas Pasek | China Daily | Updated: 2019-10-24 08:25

I stopped listening to music. That's right, the closing coda called and the sousaphones, saxophones and sitars fell silent.

The motivations to garrote the nightingale, throttle the troubadour and smother the songster with Suzhou silk-sewn couch cushions a la a Mulberry Street snuffout are multifaceted.

As a New Yorker, the Little Italy reference is no accident. Innit... I have seen many of my capos and crew - solid earners, every one of them-"Rage against the dying of the light", yet all the same, "go gentle into that good night". Their crime? Budding in Brooklyn. Yes, might as well wear a mink coat and skip around the Adirondacks on Dec 2, i.e. the final day of deer hunting season in New York State's northern zone.
