China Daily | Updated: 2019-10-21 08:26

Editor's note: This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China.

On Oct 21, 2000, China raised its average train speed for the third time, boosting it to 60.3 kilometers per hour from 48.1 kph in 1993.

In April 1997, the country began to increase the speed of train travel, as seen in an item from China Daily. Since then, the country's train speed has been raised six times. In 2007, tracks were extended by 6,000 km to accommodate trains running at 200 kph.
