Ethnic writers benefit from support
The China Writers Association has funded the publication of 80 works and supported 578 projects on ethnic literature since 2013. The CWA said at a symposium on Monday that its funding supports the creation, publication and translation of literary works by writers from ethnic groups and also provides training. More than 30 ethnic writers were awarded for their outstanding works, said Qian Xiaoqian, the CWA's vice-chairman.

Cash prizes for patent holders
Ten provincial government departments have announced financial awards for 50 patented technologies. Of them, five won the first prize of 50,000 yuan ($7,060). The winners came from sectors including automobiles, iron and pharmaceuticals. There were 10 second-prize winners who each won 20,000 yuan. Another group of 10 patentees were awarded the third prize of 10,000 yuan each.

Hundreds of cases investigated for expo
Enforcement officials have investigated 328 intellectual property cases that involved more than an estimated 3 billion yuan ($423.12 million) in retail sales of suspect goods. Since early August, 285 suspects have been detained in an IP protection operation ahead of the China International Import Expo set for Nov 5, according to the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration.

Changsha police arrest counterfeiters
Changsha police investigated a major case of counterfeit dental products worth more than 50 million yuan ($7.05 million) in retail sales, cutting off an illegal long-term supply chain. They found that a major suspect surnamed Ning had quit his job at a dental instrument company and turned to producing fakes in Guangdong province. He led a gang to make and sell counterfeit dental products. Some of them proved to contain carcinogenic substances. In late August, 12 suspects including Ning were arrested.

Traditional crafts to be celebrated
An international festival of intangible cultural heritage is scheduled to be held from Thursday to Tuesday in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province. The event will focus on the integration of intangible cultural heritage with tourism, organizers said. In addition to international forums, more than 200 community activities will be held during the festival to give people opportunities to experience heritage, including handicrafts and culinary skills.

Protection center opens in Guangzhou
The Pazhou Intellectual Property Protection Center was launched in Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong province, earlier this month. The center will focus on the exhibition industry and digital economy, its founders said. The Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center hosts nearly 100 events a year. This includes the long-standing China Import and Export Fair, which helped the conference and exhibition industry grow into a pillar of the local economy. The city's decision-makers have also decided to build an experimental zone focusing on artificial intelligence and digital economy, seeking breakthroughs in core technologies.
