All the words are leading to a noun - sustainability
Not a day passes without our reading reports about companies adopting sustainable manufacturing practices, governments charting sustainable development plans and individuals charting sustainable paths. As a business journalist, I, too, have heard enough about sustainable approaches in my lengthy career, but never given serious thought about the culprits in its way like pollution and wastage.
Last week, I chanced upon a report published by the World Resources Institute with the support of the Rockefeller Foundation, which was an eye-opener of sorts. The report said that global food wastage is costing the global economy over $940 billion, with nearly one-third of the food that is produced each year going uneaten.
The report, Reducing Food Loss and Waste, said uneaten food is responsible for emitting about 8 percent of the planet-warming greenhouse gases.
