As China's Loch Ness 'monster' sinks, Scotland gets in eel trouble

It's been a month of subaquatic shenanigans as news of serpents real or imagined hit the headlines on opposite sides of the globe - with both ending up in hot water.

Firstly to China, where many in the country became captivated in September when a video of a serpent-like shape in the waters of the Yangtze River went viral online.

When footage emerged of a dark, sinuous creature writhing through the river currents in Hubei province, netizens were quick to dub it the "Three Gorges Water Monster". The video was viewed more than 32 million times on the Weibo microblogging platform.
