Trump says 'Howdy' as thousands greet Modi amid Kashmir tensions

China Daily | Updated: 2019-09-24 07:31

HOUSTON - US President Donald Trump on Sunday shared a stage with visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Houston, Texas, to address tens of thousands of Indian Americans amid high tensions over Delhi's actions in India-controlled Kashmir.

Trump hailed the US-Indian ties while addressing the "Howdy, Modi!" rally in the NRG Stadium, which attracted about 50,000 people, mostly Indian Americans, in an unprecedented welcome for Modi.

The event - proclaimed with a Texan twang - was billed as the largest gathering ever for a foreign leader other than a pope in the United States.
