Fashion Week puts spotlight on sustainable development

The models will be on the catwalk, and photographers and celebrities in the front rows as New York Fashion Week gets underway.

It won't be taking center stage with the glamorous clothes, but the sustainable fashion movement is gaining increased attention from the global garment industry.

The movement wants to get the industry - from luxurious clothing designers and makers to producers of cheap fast fashion - to recognize it is a major environmental polluter due to inefficient production that adds to greenhouse emissions.
