Huawei unveils first 5G SoC in the world

Huawei Technologies Co unveiled what it said is the world's first 5G SoC, or system-on-chip, chipset on Friday. The Kirin 990 5G is manufactured using the 7 nanometer process. It can support real time on-device inference. Huawei's Mate series smartphones powered by Kirin 990 will be unveiled later in September. Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei's consumer business group, said Kirin 990 5G supports both stand-alone and non-stand-alone 5G networks, signifying wider use scenarios. Non-stand-alone networks still rely on existing 4G infrastructure for some functions.
