Shenzhen set to have 15,000 5G stations

Shenzhen plans to build a total of 15,000 5G base stations by the end of this year in an effort to push forward with 5G commercialization. The metropolis in southern Guangdong province aims to increase the number of 5G base stations to 45,000 by the end of August 2020, according to a government meeting held in Shenzhen on Wednesday. The city's industry and information technology department signed a memorandum of understanding with Shenzhen branches of China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, respectively, at the meeting to carry out comprehensive cooperation on the construction of 5G base stations. The next-generation mobile network will first be installed to support key projects in 10 industries including transportation, policing, urban management, education and tourism.
