Compensation for VR player's real-life injury

A woman who confused the virtual world with reality and injured herself while playing a virtual reality game has been awarded about 5,200 yuan ($726) in compensation, according to Shanghai No 1 Intermediate People's Court. During the game, she stretched out her arms and jumped "from a high altitude", which, in reality, saw her fall to the ground and injure her jaw. According to the court, the woman, surnamed Zhou, went to a local VR playhouse with her friend last year. A clerk recommended a bungee jumping game for her. The service provider, the court found, should guarantee the player's security during the game. Recordings and photos showed that the house hadn't placed a mat in the area. Consequently, the court ruled that the house was responsible for her injury.
