Israeli warplanes strike Palestinian base
Israeli warplanes attacked a Palestinian base in eastern Lebanon near the border with Syria early on Monday amid rising tensions in the Middle East, the Lebanese state-run National News Agency reported. The strike came a day after an alleged Israeli drone crashed in a Hezbollah stronghold in southern Beirut while another exploded and crashed nearby. The agency's report said there were three strikes after midnight on Sunday, minutes apart, that struck a base for a Syrian-backed group known as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine - General Command, an ally of the Lebanese Hezbollah militant group. There was no immediate comment from Israel on the strike.
United States
Trump suggested nuking hurricanes
US President Donald Trump suggested dropping nuclear bombs on hurricanes before they made landfall in the United States, Axios reported on Sunday. During a hurricane briefing, Trump asked if it were possible to disrupt hurricanes forming off the coast of Africa by dropping a nuclear bomb in the eye of the storm, the US news site wrote. Axios did not say when this conversation took place. It is reportedly not the first time Trump made such a suggestion. In 2017, he asked a senior official whether the administration should bomb hurricanes to prevent them making landfall.
