So far, so good: With new job, a Florida transplant settles in

By Jamal Branford | China Daily | Updated: 2019-08-19 07:32

I was offered a job at China Daily back in March, while I was working in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The benefits seemed better than what my current job offered at the time, and I really liked the idea that I would be closer to my daughter, who lives in Malaysia. I also relished getting back into journalism, a business that I had left behind a few years ago to teach English as a second language overseas.

Still, I didn't rush to accept the offer. I really put a lot of thought into it.

After all, the job was in China! I had lived in Asia before, and I wasn't keen on moving back so quickly after resettling back in my beloved South Florida. Plus, I wasn't sure how I would be viewed by Chinese people.
