A robbery suspect was arrested after killing at least four people and injuring two others in a stabbing spree on Wednesday in the city of Garden Grove, 60 kilometers southeast of downtown Los Angeles. Police said the 34-year-old suspect stabbed two men to death, then drove a silver Mercedes-Benz to a Chevron gas station and an insurance company, where he injured two others. From there, the suspect went to a Subway restaurant and stabbed a person to death before going to a nearby 7-Eleven and attacking a security guard, who died later in hospital.
Iran
Teheran slams Gulf military conference
Iran on Thursday hit out at Bahrain for hosting a "provocative" conference on Gulf maritime security and for its "anti-Iran" rhetoric accusing Teheran of attacking tankers in sensitive waters. "Bahrain's government should not become the facilitator of common enemies' wishes and schemes in the region," said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi. Mousavi "condemned the anti-Iran measures taken by Bahrain's government including hosting suspicious and provocative conferences". Bahrain said the July 31 meeting was to discuss the "current regional situation" and blasted "the repeated attacks and unacceptable practices of Iran and the terrorist groups linked to it".
Russia
2 dead, 4 wounded in rocket explosion
Russia's Defense Ministry on Thursday said two people died and four others were wounded when a rocket engine exploded during a test. The ministry said the explosion occurred at a military shooting range in the northwestern Arkhangelsk region, causing a fire. It said a total of six servicemen and civilian engineers were injured, and two later died of their injuries. The ministry said there was no release of radioactivity or any toxic substances. The explosion followed a massive fire that erupted on Monday at a military ammunition depot in eastern Siberia's Krasnoyarsk region.
