Global hospitality giant Marriott International announced its properties in Shanghai, including JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Shanghai Pudong scheduled to open on Thursday, have launched promotional activities this summer. Guests will be given an arrival stamp after they visit a restaurant in any of the hotels. The first guests to collect 15 stamps from various hotels and upload them to the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program's WeChat account will earn a suite voucher for a one-night stay at The St. Regis Macao, Cotai Central. Guests will also have an opportunity to earn a gift package, including a sightseeing tour bus ticket worth 100 yuan ($15). The ticket can be reused for 24 hours from the time of its first use.

Theme park

Hello Kitty, an iconic Japanese cartoon character, will find a new home in China as the country's southernmost island province of Hainan will open a theme park based on her image in 2024. According to an agreement signed between Sanrio (Shanghai) International Trade, which owns the rights to the Hello Kitty brand, and Chinese company Funde Holding Group, the theme park will be located at the Haitang Bay in Sanya, a popular beach city in Hainan. The project will include a theme park, hotel and shopping facilities.

Sofitel Macao at Ponte 16 hosted a soccer club team for the Macao session of its China tour in late July. The team of Paris Saint-Germain included star players Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani, Julian Draxler and Alphonse Areola. Hundreds of fans assembled at the entrance of hotel and gave the squad a warm welcome upon their arrival on July 26. The 2019 China Tour presented by ALL-Accor Live Limitless is the team's third tour to China over the last six years.

New appointment

Nelson Tan was appointed general manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Nanchang in July. He was previously the assistant vice-president of sales and marketing at Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in North China. Born in 1975, Tan is a long-serving associate who has been with the hotel industry for over 18 years.
