Color TV channeled the beginning of our modern-tech era

When I was a small child in the 1970s, computers were something which belonged only in the movies and on TV programs.
They were huge banks of processors that would fill an entire room, and seemed to mainly be for tasks what would be beyond the comprehension of the average person.
They appeared to have very little to do with people's everyday lives, even in a highly advanced and developed economy as the United Kingdom. The only thing which I remember seeing which bore any resemblance to such high-tech was a single solitary ATM machine outside one of the banks on the main street of the small Scottish town I grew up in.
