Service center to increase awareness
A national intellectual property service center focusing on resolving overseas disputes was founded earlier this month, according to the National Intellectual Property Administration. The establishment, affiliated with the IP Protection Department of NIPA, works to assist Chinese enterprises to deal with overseas IP disputes and construct State-level channels for collecting and publicizing related information. The move is aimed at helping Chinese companies improve their IP risk control awareness and capabilities of coping with such disputes when expanding abroad.

Blue Skies operation targets bad actors
The province's intellectual property authorities have announced the launch of an enforcement operation named Blue Skies. It will target illegal activities in the patent agency industry, including unqualified attorneys and representation of "abnormal" patent filings. Authorities released a hotline to encourage informants to offer clues or complain. The operation will last through next year.

Fair creates 14 billion yuan in transactions
The International Copyright Fair 2019 concluded in Qingdao earlier this month, with projects worth 14 billion yuan (about $2 billion) inked. Projects included the establishment of a 10 billion yuan fund focusing on the intellectual property industry. Diverse forums featuring IP rights and exhibitions were also held during the three-day fair. Over 300 companies in the industry, domestic and international, attended the exhibitions.

Cultural arts expo to draw 100K visitors
The 2019 Craft Industry Exposition& Intangible Cultural Heritage of Traditional Arts Exhibition, held in Shanghai, is estimated to attract 100,000 visitors, organizers said. The monthlong event, which opened on July 6, includes exhibitions, forums and industrial exchanges. More than 100 art organizations will display their creations at a 30,000-square-meter exhibition area. The annual event, which debuted in 2017, is part of the host city's innovative industry, which works to promote cultural exchanges and innovative growth of traditional crafts.

Federation to tap big data applications
An intellectual property federation focusing on big data applications was founded in the municipality in Southwest China in early July. The group is comprised of nearly 1,440 professionals and more than 70 organization members, including local companies, higher education institutions and IP service providers. The nonprofit establishment will engage in research and development, coordinated innovation and data applications, its leaders said.

Trademark program to ease registration
A trademark training program opened in Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, last week. Experts and officials from the World Intellectual Property Organization and the National Intellectual Property Administration shared with the audience the latest progress in the Madrid system, created to facilitate international trademark registration. The program aims to promote international trademark registration and protection, local officials said. IP leaders from across the province, executives from key export-oriented companies and representatives of trademark agencies participated in the program.
