It has four colors - cyan to represent openness; red to represent modernity; yellow to represent vitality and purple to represent fashion.

Cong Peike, deputy head of the publicity department of the Communist Party of China Qingdao Committee, said: "The three-month event will comprehensively display the fashion elements and diverse cultures of Qingdao as an international metropolis."

It will also showcase the city's new image featuring openness, modernity, vitality and fashion, attract more trendsetters, stimulate new creative ideas and further enhance Qingdao's international reputation and influence, Cong added.

An orienteering activity marking the official kick off of the event attracted about 10,000 people and was held on July 14.

The activity designed 32 routes allowing participants to explore the beauty of Qingdao and view a number of the city's landmarks in science and technology, culture and history. Participants could either walk, jog or use public transport to get to the designated destinations and complete tasks based on instructions given by a mobile phone app.

Orienteering, a sport that originated in Sweden more than a century ago, gives people an opportunity to work out while cultivating their ability to think independently, find creative solutions to problems and respond quickly.
