Push for AI solutions for smart homes

Internet giant Baidu with artificial intelligence technologies and home appliances maker Haier signed an agreement on Monday to promote AI patents in the smart home field. Haier is working on creating smart homes and has launched AI products, such as refrigerators, air conditioners and floor-mopping robots, insiders said. They added that the products will likely be involved in Baidu's AI patents. Liang Zhixiang, vice-president of Baidu, said they hope the cooperation will promote the partnership among AI-related companies and industries.

Demonstration park gets green light

The Chengdu Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone was recently approved to build an IP new economy demonstration park by the National Intellectual Property Administration. The park will feature the whole chain, from IP creation, protection and application to management and services. It will guarantee the IP system's active role in motivating innovation. The zone's administrative committee said it will support the park in aspects, such as policies, funds and professionals, and develop it into a model park.

Patented tech auctioned by CAS

Twelve patented technologies developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, involving environmental protection and 3D printing, were auctioned at the China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fair in Guangzhou on Friday. The volume of transactions totaled 3.96 million yuan ($575,000). Sui Xueqing, director of the academy's IP operation and management center, said they hope the auction drives Guangdong's integration of technological innovation with industrial development. The academy also established a WeChat platform for bidders and patent inventors to communicate.

Sat-nav and app companies unite

An IP alliance of satellite navigation and application industries held its founding ceremony and a general congress in Guangzhou on Friday. Experts discussed IP protection, the latest technologies, trends and early warning analysis of patents related to satellite navigation. Founded by more than 30 companies and scientific research and higher learning institutions, the alliance will increase Chinese companies' global competitiveness, attendees said. The output value of China's satellite navigation and location service sector reached 301.6 billion yuan ($43.83 billion) in 2018.

Students learn about cultural heritage

The China Cultural Centre in Sydney recently invited more than 120 teachers and students from three local schools to learn about the intangible cultural heritage of Guizhou province. They visited a photo exhibit, tried out clay whistles and wax printing and embroidery under the guidance of cultural inheritors. Student representatives said they learned about the attractiveness of Chinese traditional culture and want to see the beautiful scenery of Guizhou and experience its folk culture.
