China Daily | Updated: 2019-06-10 07:28

Editor's note: This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China.

On June 10, 1984, Zhu Jianhua set a world high-jump record by jumping 2.39 meters in Eberstadt, West Germany, as seen in an item from China Daily. Two months later, he won a bronze medal at the Los Angeles Olympics.

He first broke the record in June 1983, clearing 2.37 meters in Beijing. The same year, in Helsinki, Finland, Zhu became the first Chinese man to win a medal in the IAAF World Championships. He retired in 1988.
