Wu undergoes shoulder surgery

It was a gamble that Wu Lei won - for a little while, at least.

Four months after injuring his left shoulder at the Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates, the prodigious Chinese striker finally relented to surgery on Thursday after playing in Espanyol's last La Liga match of the season last Saturday.

The operation was conducted in Barcelona, and Wu is expected to need up to eight weeks to recover.
