Gyam Dorlgyee didn't even know prosthetic hands existed until he had one.

That said, the 8-year-old boy's nomadic family couldn't have afforded a conventional prosthetic, which costs about 150,000 yuan ($21,700) on average. And children outgrow them quickly.

His nomadic family earns about 2,000 yuan a year by leasing their pastures to herders.
