Iran

Teheran using all resources to sell oil

Iran has mobilized all its resources to sell oil in a "gray market", bypassing US sanctions that Teheran sees as illegitimate, state media quoted Deputy Oil Minister Amir Hossein Zamaninia as saying on Sunday. The United States, which last year withdrew from a 2015 deal with world powers, has told buyers of Iranian oil to stop purchases by May 1 or face sanctions. Iran said it will continue to export oil in defiance of US sanctions. Zamaninia gave no details about the "gray market". "This is not smuggling. This is countering sanctions which we do not see as just or legitimate," he said.

Venezuela

Army helicopter crashes, killing seven

A Venezuelan military helicopter crashed close to Caracas on Saturday, killing all seven people on board, the Defense Ministry said. The helicopter was to fly from Caracas, the capital, to the west-central state of Cojedes when it "went to ground," the ministry said, adding that authorities were investigating the cause of the crash. President Nicolas Maduro was in Cojedes on Saturday to watch a series of army drills, which, in televised speeches, he said demonstrated Venezuela's military readiness against the threat posed by the United States.
