Technology makes us first among equals at a high cost

I recently re-watched the British TV drama series First Among Equals, written by Jeffrey Archer. The series was first broadcast in 1986, and it certainly doesn't seem like 33 years since I first watched it.
The series, which is based on Archer's book, follows the political and personal ups and downs of four members of parliament elected at the 1964 general election, all the way through to the 1980s.
It makes for fascinating viewing for its gripping plot and great attention to detail, as Archer himself was a Westminster insider, serving as a Conservative Member of Parliament from 1969 to 1974 and deputy chairman of the party in the 1980s.
