Editor's note: This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China.
On April 23, 1956, J-5, a home-built fighter aircraft was unveiled by Shenyang Aircraft Corp. Its design was based on its predecessor, the MiG-15. It performed its maiden flight on July 19, 1956, and marked the start of the domestic fighter manufacturing sector.
In 1959, the first J-6 by Shenyang Aircraft Corp took to the skies and is still in use in some countries.
