New emoji symbols accepted in upgrade
The Unicode Consortium has announced that 59 new emoji icons will be part of the sixth major update to the official roster. What's significant about the latest batch is its focus on disabilities and gender-related experiences. One representing menstruation has gone viral. The menstruation emoji was one fought for by Plan International UK, a rights charity for girls. They were trying to convey the message that periods aren't shameful.
