Culture: Embroidery a lifelong pursuit
A small village outside Baoding, Hebei province, has achieved fame for the exquisite embroidery often seen in TV series or as part of clothing worn at major events. Liang Shuping, 54, has spent her whole adult life working with the craft. Liang, who mastered embroidery at the age of 17, set up a company in the 1980s to produce various embroidered products. Her company offers more than 1,000 kinds of embroidered articles, including wedding dresses, qipao, shawls, wall hangings and bags. Many of them have been used for major events, such as the costumes worn by female workers at the award ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
