Editor's note: This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy.
On Oct 22, 1991, the first International Conference on Traditional Medicine was held in Beijing, attracting representatives from 42 countries and regions.
At the conference, Oct 22 was designated as World Traditional Medicine Day to encourage people to use nature-based medicines.
