Millions of visitors flocked to Southwest China's scenic Guiyang during this year's weeklong National Day holiday at the start of October, according to official.

According to Guiyang tourism development committee, a total of 10.57 million tourists from both home and abroad visited the city over the holiday, generating tourism revenue of 8.11 billion yuan ($1.17 billion) - a 28.51 percent and 33.14 percent year-on-year increase, respectively.

In the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, Guiyang received a total of 5.16 million domestic and foreign tourists, an increase of 30.18 percent year-on-year.

The revenue generated by the tourism sector during the three-day holiday reached 3.93 billion yuan, an increase of 35.21 percent year-on-year, according to the Guiyang tourism development committee.

To encourage tourists, some key scenic spots in Guiyang lowered their ticket prices, which was offset by the increased number of tourists.

Among the major scenic spots in the city, the Qingyan Ancient Town received 212,382 tourists, Tianhe Lake received 90,600 and Nanjiang Grand Canyon received 14,749.

A third-party survey of tourist expenditure and satisfaction in Guizhou found that 43.68 percent of tourists drove themselves around during the National Day holiday.

A large number of tourists chose to entertain themselves by experiencing rural life, learning new handicrafts and cooking at the ecological parks scattered around the city.
