Colonial-era laws are still in use in many countries even when the source countries have long removed them.

India's Supreme Court banished a law against homosexuality on Sept 6, in a landmark decision with potential to influence courts in other countries where similar laws exist.

Section 377 of the penal code had come into effect in India in 1861 under British rule.
