Music: Concert marks third youth competition

Young musicians from China and Germany gathered at Bayern Munich's home ground, the Allianz Arena, on Sept 11 for the third China Youth Music Competition, which kicked off on Sept 1. The concert featured repertories including the Grand Duo Concertant Op. 85, for Flute or Violin and Guitar by Mauro Giuliani; Carl Maria von Weber's Clarinet Concerto No. 1 in F-minor, Op. 73; the Chinese folk song Jasmine Flower; and Bayern Munich's anthem, Star of the South. In 2016, the first edition of the contest ran in Beijing and Shanghai, attracting more than 600 applicants from across China. Eight winners at the 2017 China Youth Music Competition toured Germany in September last year. After giving shows in Germany, the third China Youth Music Competition will return to China next month with two concerts in Beijing and Shanghai.
