North Caucasus formed part of merchants' ancient route
The North Caucasus region in southwest Russia, a key gateway to the Middle East and Eastern Europe, is looking to deepen its links with China.
Strategically located between the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea to the west and the Caspian Sea to the east, the region has historical connections with China due to the ancient Silk Road, according to Stanislav Aristov, an adviser to the Ministry of North Caucasus Affairs.
