Travelers who enjoy traditional Mediterranean or Iranian cuisine will delight in the food on offer in nations in the Caucasus Mountains.
A vast array of fresh produce is available, including savory and sweet meats and grain-based dishes accompanied by bread, which is ubiquitous, fragrant and meets daily needs.
The iconic dish is a stew called piti, which comprises slowly cooked lamb, chickpeas, chestnuts and bitter green plums grown locally. The fat from the lamb's tail provides an incomparable richness throughout.
