World needs morals more than ever - but just what are they?

"Manners makyth man", to cite an old toff's motto. Though if this aphorism of a bygone age still holds true today, and for women also, then what do morals make?

It's a question I've found myself thinking about quite a bit lately, especially as the dangers of "moral equivalence" get bandied about by some of the more right-minded members of the stateside media.

What are morals anyway? They certainly wouldn't seem to be innate. In much the same way as "common sense" often seems to be far from common, morals are something that it would appear many of us need to be taught.
