China Daily | Updated: 2018-09-05 08:35

TOKYO - The strongest typhoon to hit Japan in 25 years made landfall on Tuesday, with at least six people killed and more than 1 million people urged to evacuate to escape violent winds and heavy rainfall.

Jebi - whose name means "swallow" in Korean - was briefly a super typhoon and is the latest harsh weather to hit Japan this summer following rains, landslides, floods and record-breaking heat that killed hundreds of people. There were scattered reports of mild injuries as the typhoon made landfall.

Japan's Kyodo News said it was the strongest typhoon to hit Japan since 1993.
