Hotpot blamed for German hotel fire scare
A self-heating hotpot meal being cooked by a Chinese tourist was blamed for a fire scare at a hotel in Stuttgart, Germany. An online video showed firemen responding to the fire alarm at the hotel and found the hotpot cooking in the tourist's room. The tourist was fined $1,120 for the incident. Self-heating hotpots require no external heat source (fire or electricity) in their preparation. All that is needed is just a bottle of water. The bottom of the packet contains a packet of quicklime which, when mixed with water, releases heat adequate for cooking the product.
