First pilots for civil, military integration

The first 13 pilot regions for IP civilian and military integration were determined recently by the China National Intellectual Property Administration and a department at the Central Military Commission. The regions include Jiangsu, Fujian, Shandong, Hunan and Guangdong provinces. They will carry out work on eight aspects such as gradually lifting control over the agency sector targeting national defense patents. The CNIPA and the department will set up an assessment and evaluation mechanism during a three-year pilot period to supervise the work.

Heritage expo to open next month

The fifth China Intangible Cultural Heritage Expo, scheduled to be held in Jinan from Sept 13 to 17, will host performances, exhibitions, competitions, experiences and forums. Its main venue in Jinan will cover a 14,000-sqaure-meter area and display eight themes such as weaving, embroidery, dyeing and tea making. A branch venue in Weifang will host six events from Sept 14 to 16, including performances of traditional martial arts. The expo will also organize related exhibitions and performances in urban communities, rural areas, schools and public cultural venues.

IP service sector alliance set up

The city of Wenzhou set up an intellectual property alliance for the smoking-related product industry and an IP service alliance on Aug 14. The smoking-related industrial alliance consists of seven manufacturers and service agencies aiming to deal with problems related to technological research and development and IP protection. The service alliance will provide a communication and cooperation platform for its members and help to improve the sector in general. The city also has IP alliances for companies that produce low-voltage electronics, educational facilities, toys for educational use, and fasteners and zippers.

Deal signed with Belarusian school

Liaoning province in Northeast China and the Belarusian State University signed a framework agreement on intellectual property cooperation, during a recent visit of an IP delegation headed by Li Changchun, chief of the provincial IP office. Both sides agreed on increased exchanges in personnel, information and research, regular academic seminars, and policies and training. In addition to Belarus, the delegation also visited Russia, to attract high-level professionals, import patented technologies and explore the IP market.

Youth innovation contest launched

The China-ASEAN Youth Innovation Contest opened in Chongqing in mid-August, with its launch ceremony attracting nearly 100 students and teachers from 10 countries. The event, hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the China Association for Science and Technology, promotes cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in education, its organizers said. Young participants from both China and ASEAN members can showcase their tech projects, learn from each other and gain friendship, they added.
