Editor's Note: This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy.
On June 28, 1997, Metro No 1 Line opened in Guangzhou, Guangdong province. The city was the fourth to have a subway, after Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai.
