Editor's Note: This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy.

On June 20, 1986, the State Council set April 25 as National Child Vaccination Awareness Day.

The photo from 1989 in China Daily showed a girl receiving a vaccination in Yingxi town, Anhui province. That year, the township government launched an immunity insurance system for children.
