Editor's Note: This year marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy.

In June 1994, China released its first white paper on the protection of intellectual property.

Since China became a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization in 1980, it has launched a series of policies on IPR protection, updated laws and regulations and severely punished violations.
